Custom Designed Skating Dresses, Designed by a Skater For a Skater
Figure Skatewear is owned by Judy T Reinford. Judy began her business as a need to make figure skating costumes/dresses for herself. Judy competes as an adult at the gold level and as an adult skating competitor, found that most figure skating dresses/costumes were designed with children to mid-teens in mind. She wanted sophisticated and fashionable skating dresses that allowed her to feel like a woman not a child.
When the company first began, the first few skating dresses to come out of Figure Skatewear were designed for kids and adult skaters she knew locally. This rapidly spread from state to state as the skating dresses were being seen at many events around the country.
As the business grew Judy continued to seek out new and innovative techniques for designing the figure skating dresses. She met with various other well known skating dress designers to “pick their brains” and see what they were doing. Judy dyes most of her mesh, silk chiffon and Venice lace. The color choices are just not there when you are trying to match several fabrics and trims. (See her seminar list).
When Judy first thinks about the design of a figure skating dress or costume, she tries to imagine what character the music is portraying. Once you determine who you are portraying in your program, and how you want that character to be perceived, it is a lot easier to put together a skating dress or costume that will bring out the true essence of your program. Each skating dress she designs is unique and original. She will never duplicate a skating dress for another client. Many have asked.
To date, she has clients in states all across the USA, in addition to Canada, England, The Netherlands, Sweden, South Korea, Hungary, China, Ireland, Australia, Dubai, The Channel Islands and Italy. Her clients range in age from 5 years old to 65, and from No-Test to Olympic skaters. In the Spring of 2004, she had the honor of designing and making a custom skating dress for Isabelle Brasseur of Brasseur and Eisler. The dress was worn by her for Stars On Ice in Canada and she wore the same dress for their retirement performance in the Fall of 2004. This was a true honor for Judy. In July of 2009, she put together some beaded dresses for Amanda Evora, which she wore for practice at the Olympic Games in 2010.
Judy has been a Merchants Overseas Customer since 1998!!
